Matheesha Pathirana suffered a hamstring injury in KKR’s game against Gujarat Titans.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to clash with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 70th match of the Indian Premier League 2026. The encounter will take place on May 24 at Eden Gardens. KKR still have a narrow chance to qualify for the playoffs.
In a big blow, KKR pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. The right-arm pacer played just one game against the Gujarat Titans.
In the encounter, he injured his hamstring while bowling. He could only bowl 1.2 overs and left the field midway. Later, he also missed the clash against Mumbai Indians.
Pathirana arrived late in India as he was recovering from an injury sustained in T20 World Cup. After receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), he joined the KKR squad last month. Even after joining the squad, he was not picked in the few games.
KKR name Luvnith Sisodia as Pathirana’s replacement
Kolkata have named Luvnith Sisodia as Pathirana’s replacement for the remainder of the season. Sisodia is a wicket-keeper batsman from Karnataka. He is yet to make his debut in the IPL. However, he has been part of the RCB and KKR squads before.
Meanwhile, KKR are placed in the sixth spot in the points table with 13 points. If Rajasthan Royals lose their clash against Mumbai Indians, KKR will have a chance to defeat DC and bag a berth in the playoffs. However, they will also need to win the match by a big margin to achieve a better Net Run Rate (NRR) than Punjab Kings.
