Matthew Forde slams 16-ball fifty, equals AB de Villiers' record for fastest ODI fifty

Matthew Forde achieved the record during the second ODI between Ireland and the West Indies.
West Indies all-rounder Matthew Forde scripted history as he slammed the joint-fastest fifty in ODI cricket against Ireland on Friday, May 23. He slammed a fifty off just 16 balls. He equalled AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest fifty in ODI cricket.
Forde achieved the record during the second ODI between Ireland and the West Indies in Castle Avenue, Dublin. The home side Ireland won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. West Indies lost openers Brandon King (8) and Evin Lewis (20) cheaply.
However, Keacy Carty, batting at No. 3, slammed a stunning century (102) . Skipper Shai Hope added crucial 49 runs. Towards the end, batting at No. 8, Forde slammed a quickfire half-century off just 16 balls to script his name in the record books. He got out for 58 runs off 19 deliveries with eight sixes and two boundaries.
Matthew Forde equals AB de Villiers’ record for fastest fifty
With his fifty of just 16 balls, Forde equalled De Villiers’ record for the fastest fifty in ODI cricket. Villiers slammed a fifty off just 16 balls in an ODI against West Indies in January 2015. He slammed 149 runs off 44 balls in that match.

Meanwhile, Forde helped the visitors reach a powerful total of 352/8 in the first innings. For Ireland, Liam McCarthy picked three wickets. Barry McCarthy and Joshua Little got two wickets each. However, they could not halt West Indies from posting a mammoth total with marvellous teamwork in batting.
The match was delayed due to rain at the start. The Ireland vs West Indies ODI series comprises of three matches. Ireland lead the series 1-0. They won the opening clash by 124 runs.
