Prithvi Shaw went unsold at IPL 2025 mega auction.
It has been a rough last few years for Prithvi Shaw. The talented Mumbai batter who made headlines by scoring his maiden test century on his test debut in 2018 has been on a downhill in recent times.
Recently, Shaw went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The nadir of his career was when he was dropped from Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier 50-over domestic competition.
In response to his omission, Shaw grabbed attention by sharing an Instagram story highlighting his impressive List A cricket statistics.
Shaw wrote, ” Tell me God, what more do I have to see.. if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I am not good enough.. but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people belief in me still.. cause i will come back for sure.. OM SAI RAM..“
A senior MCA official has now responded to Shaw’s social media post. He has shared his insights on the reasons behind the opener’s exclusion from the squad.
MCA official reveals reason behind Prithvi Shaw’s snub from Vijay Hazare Trophy squad
A senior MCA official, speaking to PTI, didn’t hold back in criticizing Shaw’s conduct. The official stated that his poor fitness had become a liability for the team.
The MCA official said, “In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him, and he would barely be able to get to it.“
The official remarked that the youngster is “his own enemy” and emphasized that emotional social media posts will not influence Mumbai’s selectors.
He concluded, “I’ll tell you one thing. No one is Shaw’s enemy. He is his own enemy, You would be wrong to think such posts on social media would have any impact on the Mumbai selectors and the MCA.“
