MI Cape Town announce player retentions ahead of the SA20 auction

MI Cape Town finished at the bottom of the points table in the inaugural season of SA20.
The SA20 season saw a massive success in the first season as it gathered a lot of eyeballs from the sub-continental crowd as well. Mumbai Indians’ sister franchise MI Cape Town announced the player retention ahead of the upcoming auctions of SA20. The second season will be held in January – February 2024. MI Cape Town have their South African core retained with Rassie van der Dussen, and Ryan Rickelton who picked up multiple honours at 2023 CSA awards as ‘Division 1 One-Day Cup Player of the Season’ and ‘Domestic Players’ Player of the Season’.
MI Cape Town have also retained Grant Roelofsen, Delano Potgieter, George Linde, Duan Jansen, and Beuran Hendricks from their last season squad. Last season’s wildcard picks, Jofra Archer and speedster Olly Stone continue with MI Cape Town for the second season. Playing for Mumbai Indians, Jofra Archer flew back to England from mid-season of the Indian Premier League. Archer made his comeback from the SA20 tournament as well. Mumbai Indians franchise did not want to lose out on Archer even after multiple injury problems he had in recent times.
The players join the pre-signings that included Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Tom Banton. Ziyaad Abrahams, Wesley Marshall, Odean Smith, and Waqar Salamkheil have been released along with Tim David and Henry Brooks who were signed as in-season replacement players. MI Cape Town had a poor first season of the SA20 and finished bottom of the table with only 6 points and 3 wins in their 10 league encounters. MI have added Cape Town, New York, and Emirates as their sister franchise leagues in various leagues around the World.
Recently, MI New York won the Major League Cricket tournament. Along with Mumbai and New York, the MI management will look to get the winning team in SA20 as well. MI have 5 IPL titles, one MLC title, and a WPL title under their name. Sunrisers Eastern Cape under the leadership of Aiden Markram emerged victorious in the inaugural season of the SA20. Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated Pretoria Capitals in the final to lift the championship in February last year.
