The preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) (IPL) 2027 has already started with a few teams engaging in trade talks. Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made headlines recently as they traded Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant just a few weeks after the IPL 2026.
Some more trades are expected to take place, and among those Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who could not qualify for the playoffs for a third straight time in IPL 2026, will be the one. With six wins and eight defeats across 14 games, the Men in Yellow ended at the eighth spot in the points table. Now, they will aim for a big comeback in the IPL 2027 season.
Moreover, Mumbai Indians (MI) are also expected to trade multiple players after failing to win the title under captain Hardik Pandya once again. The five-time champions gave a dismal performance in the 2026 season, finishing at the ninth spot in the points table with just four wins out of 14 matches.
Notably, CSK made the headlines ahead of IPL 2026 by executing one of the biggest trades in the tournament’s history. They bagged Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals (RR) in exchange of star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
Following a dismal campaign in 2026, they might go ahead with more high-profile trades ahead of IPL 2027 auction.
On July 1, the Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. shared a post on their official profile on X (formerly Twitter) related to trade deals. In a short video, they showed their mascot (lion) getting phone calls from other franchises for trading players. At the end of the video, the franchise also noted that fans should wait for official updates regarding their trade deals.
However, rumours are rife on social media that Super Kings are looking forward to trading one of their youngsters to bag big players into their squad.
CSK expected to trade Ayush Mhatre in exchange for Hardik Pandya or Washington Sundar
According to rumours on social media, Super Kings are expected to part ways with Ayush Mhatre with a trade deal ahead of IPL 2027. They are looking to grab either Hardik Pandya or Washington Sundar in exchange.
There have been various reports since the last few months which claimed that Hardik Pandya is all set to MI, and CSK have shown interest to get him in the team.
Renowned cricket analyst Prasanna shared a post on X on July 12, in which he requested CSK to not trade Ayush from their squad, hinting that CSK are looking to trade the youngster. This raised rumours that Pandya and Mhatre are all set to get traded.
“Please don’t trade Ayush Mhatre no mater what. He is a star in the making,” he wrote on X. Have a look at the post.
Notably, Chennai have not made any official statement in the matter so far. Mhatre gave a fabulous show in the IPL 2026 before suffering a hamstring injury and getting ruled out of the tournament after six games.
