MI's full schedule for IPL 2026: Know match dates, timings, venues & more

The Mumbai Indians will play their first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians had a disappointing 2024 season, finishing bottom of the table with just four wins from ten matches. But the real spirit of the MI Paltan kicked in 2025, and they put up a mighty fight to get back into the mix for the playoffs.

However, all good things have to come to an end, and unfortunately for Mumbai, their postseason aspirations came crashing down in Qualifier 2 against a strong Punjab Kings side, who were just a class above on the night.

Despite going two whole seasons without lifting the title under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, the Mumbai Indians are sticking with him as captain going into the upcoming season. This decision shows that the franchise is trusting his long-standing leadership qualities.

With the mini auction last year, rather than a full-blown mega auction, Mumbai made the smart choice to keep hold of the core of their squad.

Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, Trent Boult, and Mitchell Santner all remain in familiar blue, which has given crucial continuity to the side. That core group of experienced players will be absolutely central to whatever Mumbai hope to achieve this season.

Perhaps the most exciting development heading into IPL 2026 is the return of Quinton de Kock. The South African wicketkeeper-batter was snapped up for just his base price of ₹1 crore in the mini auction.

De Kock played a key role in Mumbai’s back-to-back title victories in 2019 and 2020, and his reunion with Rohit Sharma at the top could be absolutely devastating for opposition bowlers.
