Michael Vaughan had earlier predicted that England would win 3-1 against India.

After India‘s five-wicket defeat in the opening test match at Headingley, former England captain Michael Vaughan has stepped up his criticism of India’s team management, warning rookie skipper Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir.

Given that they had five individual centurions in the test—an unparalleled accomplishment for a team that yet lost, the loss increased pressure on India. Five batters scored hundreds, but this is the first time a team has lost in test history.

Michael Vaughan taunts Wasim Jaffer with a 4-0 prediction in favor of England

After England, driven by Ben Stokes, chased down a massive 371-run target to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, Michael Vaughan changed his prediction from a 3-1 victory for the hosts to a 4-0 thumping.

Michael Vaughan, who is well-known for his humorous social media interactions with former India opener Wasim Jaffer, didn’t hold back this time either.

“Evening @WasimJaffer14.. Hope you are ok .. #1-0,” Vaughan wrote on X (formerly Twitter) after India’s defeat in Leeds.

Jaffer replied, “Happy that a young Indian team got you worried like this. Enjoy the win, Michael, we’ll be back.” But Vaughan shot back with a cheeky warning: “Could be 4-0 now, Wasim.”

In the fourth innings, opener Ben Duckett put on an incredible display for England, smashing 149 off 170 balls. Vaughan hailed him as the best all-format hitter in the world at the moment, and his knock set the tone for a record chase.

“Pound for pound, I reckon he is the best all-format batsman in international cricket. Others in the conversation would be Travis Head or Aiden Markram, but on current form, I’d have Ben over them, especially as he does it in such a tough position, opening, across all formats,” Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

Concerns about the team’s makeup, tactical performance, and resilience under duress have been raised by the first test defeat, which has rattled the Indian camp. The second ENG vs IND game will be played at the Edgbaston in Birmingham from 2nd July.
