Australia lost the T20I series against India under Mitchell Marsh by a margin of 2-1.

Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh has settled the debate over who will be leading the team in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He openly mentioned that it will be him who will captain the team in the mega event, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka.

Mitchell Marsh’s comments came after Australia lost the T20I series against India by a margin of 2-1. The last match of the series, which took place at the Gabba in Brisbane, was washed out due to rain and it meant that India maintained their lead at the end of the series.

Australia, who were without some of the key players in the series due to the Ashes 2025-26 preparations, won just one game in the series, which came at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne in the second T20I. The rest of the games would be something that they would want to forget.

In particular, the fourth T20I, where they had to chase just 168 runs. They were right on the track but struggled to tackle spinners, getting all out for just 119. However with the ICC T20 World Cup 2025 still around the corner, they would be confident of heading into the tournament on a high.

There’s a lot of learnings and positives to take forward. The adaptability and flexibility in our group and the squad we’re trying to build in a World Cup year has been amazing.”
