Ishan Kishan scored 13 runs before getting dismissed by Mitchell Starc.
Mitchell Starc, who has underdelivered in the ongoing Indian Premier League (2024) so far, showcased his class when he dismissed Ishan Kishan by uprooting his leg stump. This happened in the 51st match of the tournament between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mumbai on May 3, 2024.
Hardik Pandya, the home captain won the toss and chose to chase first. In a surprise move, MI didn’t pick Rohit Sharma in the starting XI but named him one of the impact players.
Today was not a good day for KKR batters as MI’s Nuwan Thushara, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya ran through their batting lineup’s top order. Thushara started by removing Phil Salt for 5 runs and then sent back Angkrish Raghuvanshi (13) and KKR captain Shreyas Iyer (6).
Hardik Pandya joined in the fun by dismissing the dangerous Sunil Narine for 8 runs as KKR were left reeling at 43/4. This became 57/5 when Rinku Singh was dismissed by Piyush Chawla for 9 runs only. However, KKR were rescued by a brilliant partnership between Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey.
The duo added 83 runs for the sixth wicket with Pandey contributing 42 runs with two fours and 2 sixes. Venkatesh Iyer continued the assault till the final over and was the last man out, bowled by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker.
Venkatesh Iyer made 70 with 6 fours and 3 sixes and he shouldered KKR’s final score to 169. For MI, Nuwan Thushara and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each, while captain Hardik Pandya took two scalps.
Ishan Kishan smacks Mitchell Starc for a 4 and a 6; Starc hits back and demolishes his middle stump
Rohit Sharma, who replaced Nuwan Thushara as Impact Player, opened the batting with Ishan Kishan. After a sedate first over by Vaibhav Arora, Mitchell Starc was given the ball to bowl the second.
Ishan Kishan welcomed him with a four and a six on the second and third ball of the over. The six was a brilliant pickup shot that sent the ball sailing over mid-wicket into the crowd. However, Starc bowled the next ball exactly on the same line, but it was a tad fuller than the previous one.
Kishan attempted the same shot, but was beaten and the ball uprooted his leg stump.
