Karn Sharma had hit Mitchell Starc for three sixes in the final over with RCB needing 21 runs to win.

Mitchell Starc almost became a zero, as he almost failed to defend 21 runs in the final over of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday. This match was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 21, 2024.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis had won the toss and chosen to bowl first in Eden Gardens. Phil Salt got KKR off to an excellent start in this innings, smashing 48 off 14 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer hit 50 runs in 36 overs, and Rinku Singh (24), Andre Russell (27*), and Ramandeep Singh (24*) helped KKR to 222/6.

In response, after losing Virat Kohli (18) and Faf du Plessis (7) early, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar went after the KKR bowlers. The duo added 102 runs for third wicket in just eight overs. Jacks made 55 in 32 balls with five sixes and 4 fours, while Patidar made 52 in 23 balls with five sixes and three fours.

Andre Russell dismissed both to bring KKR back into the game. Suyash Prabhudessai then made 24 to keep RCB in hunt, while Dinesh Karthik (25) brought RCB closer to the target.

Karn Sharma hammers Micthell Starc for three sixes; Starc dismisses him to seal the game for KKR

Things came down to Karn Sharma facing Mitchell Starc with 21 runs needed in 6 balls. Karn decided to be the hero for RCB and hit Starc for three sixes in the first four balls to send KKR into panic mode.

With three runs needed from last two balls, Starc managed to bowl a wide yorker and Karn smacked the low full-toss near Starc, who bent down in time and plucked a stunning low catch. Karn Sharma went back for 20 runs in seven balls leaving Siraj and Lockie Ferguson to make 3 runs off the final ball.

Unfortunately, Ferguson was run out going for the second run which would’ve tied the match and KKR managed a 1-run win in the end.
