Mitchell Starc outpaces RCB star to win ICC Men's Player of the Month for December

Mitchell Starc won the Player of the Series award in The Ashes 2025-26.
Australian Cricket Team pacer Mitchell Starc gave a wonderful performance in the recently concluded The Ashes 2025-26. The left-arm pacer played a pivotal role in Australia’s victory in the five-match series. The hosts, captained by Steve Smith in four out of the five matches, crushed England 4-1 in the Ashes.
Starc grabbed the limelight with the marvellous form in the series. While other Australian pacers missed a few games, Starc featured in all five matches, something that surprised the entire cricket fraternity. Fans and experts praised his passion and determination for the country.
Right from the start, Starc gave a marvellous performance in the series. Picking a 10-wicket haul in the first game, he won the Player of the Match award. He followed it up with another eight-wicket haul in the second test, stealing the POTM trophy once again.
With 31 wickets at a brilliant average of 19.84, he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the series. He was far more ahead of other bowlers in the queue, with Brydon Carse taking the next spot with 22 scalps. For his stand-out performance, Starc was also adjudged Player of the Series.
His heroics were not just limited to bowling, as he also slammed two half-centuries in the campaign. His standout effort came in the second Test in Brisbane, where he finished with eight wickets and struck a vital 77 runs.
Mitchell Starc wins ICC Player of the Month for December
The International Cricket Council (ICC) lauded Starc for his impeccable form in December. The Governing body has awarded him ICC Player of the Month for December.
New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy and West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves were the other two nominees for the honours, but Starc was the eventual winner.
Speaking about the achievement, Starc told ICCCricket.com, “It’s an honour to be named the ICC Player of the Month, and even more special that it came on the back of such a successful home Ashes. To have played a part in winning such an iconic series in front of our home crowd is something we will all relish for a long time”.
“As a team we’ve had some outstanding performances in the last few years. The focus now is on building that momentum towards a place in next year’s ICC World Test Championship Final,” the veteran Australia pacer added.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt won the ICC Player of the Month award in the women’s category. She impressed with her performance in the ODI series against Ireland Women.
