Rohit Sharma clobbered Mitchell Starc for four sixes in an over earlier in the game.
Mitchell Starc’s return to Australia’s playing XI was a horrific one as he got smashed by India captain Rohit Sharma in the powerplay. India and Australia met for a crucial Super 8 game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 24 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
On a good pitch in St Lucia, Rohit was at his aggressive best as he reached his half-century off only 19 balls, which included an over from Starc in which the India opener smashed the left-arm pacer for four sixes and a boundary.
Rohit went on to register his highest score at the T20 World Cups – 92 – and missed the century by only eight runs. It was, incidentally, Starc who ended Rohit’s march toward a hundred, knocking the bails off his stumps.

Starc was taken for 34 runs in his first two overs in the powerplay and was removed from the attack by captain Mitchell Marsh. The left-arm seamer was called back to bowl in the 12th over of India’s innings and got rid of Sharma.
From around the wicket angle, Starc attacked Rohit’s stumps with a yorker and landed it near the foot of the batter. Sharma, who was in superb touch until then, went for a big slog on the legside but couldn’t connect his shot time. He managed an inside edge and the ball crashed into the base of the stumps. Starc roared in frustration more than delight that he finally dismissed the India captain.
