Mitchell Starc is the highest wicket-taker in ICC WTC history.

Mitchell Starc, one of the most renowned pacers in modern-day Test cricket history, built his career around pace, swing, resilience and sustained excellence. The Australian legend made his debut back in 2011 and evolved from being a young prospect to one of the most highly accomplished pacers of the modern era.

Starc possesses a stunning ability with the new ball, reverse-swinging the old ball and producing devastating spells that made him one of the constant threats across conditions. After one and a half decades since his debut, Starc’s career numbers truly highlight his influential contributions to Australia‘s success, especially in the longest format of the game.

Mitchell Starc easily built a Test career based on his sheer pace and his wicket-taking calibre. Since his debut, Starc has featured in 107 Test matches and has picked 441 wickets at an average of around 26, and a strike rate of 46.4 with a career economy of 3.43. Starc has also amassed 2497* runs since his Test debut with 13 half-centuries to his name.

His best bowling figures are 7/58 in his career, and his best match figures stand at 11/94. In his long-standing career, he has picked 18 five-wicket hauls with three ten-wicket hauls to his name. The best impact of Starc’s Test career has been that he never focused on merely containing batters and emerged as Australia’s best strike bowler.

A strike rate of 46.42 shows that Starc has always claimed a wicket throughout his Test career in less than 50 deliveries. However, Starc, having made his debut against New Zealand at the Gabba in 2011, had his career interrupted at various stages by injuries.

With the new ball, Starc’s left-arm sling action and his ability to threaten the outside edge make him a potent weapon at the start of an innings. With the old ball, Starc’s ability to produce reverse swings and yorkers allowed him to remain dangerous well beyond the opening spell.
