Mohammad Amir holds the British Passport, and if he registers his name, he will be in British players category.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir is likely to register for the IPL 2027 mini-auction as a British citizen. The 34-year-old pacer could enter the auction, scheduled to take place in Goa on December 16, after obtaining British citizenship earlier this year.

The development comes as IPL franchises prepare to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season. Teams could look for experienced overseas fast bowlers to address their weaknesses, with player availability also expected to play a key role in their auction plans.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Amir is likely to register for the IPL 2027 auction after entering the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) draft as a UK national. The draft is scheduled for November 3, and the left-arm pacer has been placed in the Platinum category.

Amir currently lives in England and received his British passport in May 2026. His British citizenship could allow him to enter the IPL auction as a UK national rather than a Pakistani citizen.

Pakistani players have not featured in the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008, following political tensions between India and Pakistan. Amir’s new citizenship could make his case different from that of players who continue to hold Pakistani citizenship.

Former Pakistan international Azhar Mahmood previously played in the IPL while holding a British passport. He represented Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2012, 2013 and 2015 seasons.

If Amir registers for the auction and gets picked, he could follow a similar path. However, entering the auction does not guarantee that a franchise will sign him.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) could look for an experienced fast bowler if Josh Hazlewood is unavailable for IPL 2027 due to international commitments.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could also consider strengthening their pace attack after dealing with injury concerns last season. Amir’s left-arm pace and international experience could make him an option for franchises looking for an overseas fast bowler.

However, neither franchise has confirmed any interest in Amir so far. The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled for December 16 in Goa, where his participation and potential demand will become clearer.
