[Watch] Mohammad Nawaz’s sensational hat-trick takes Pakistan to victory over Afghanistan in tri-series final

Mohammad Nawaz was adjudged Player of the Match in the encounter.

Pakistan spinner Mohammad Nawaz delivered a magical spell in the final of UAE T20I Tri-Series final, leading his team to victory against Afghanistan. The left-arm orthodox spinner picked a sensational hat-trick to help his team register a huge win in the encounter.

In the last two deliveries of the sixth over, Nawaz dismissed Darwish Rasooli and Azmatullah Omarzai. While Rasooli was trapped in LBW, Omarzai was caught by wicket-keeper Mohammad Haris.

Nawaz returned to bowl the eighth over and dismissed Ibrahim Zadran on the first delivery through stumping to complete his hat-trick in the encounter. He also clinched a five-wicket haul in the encounter later and was adjudged Player of the Match.

With 10 wickets in five matches in the tri-series, Nawaz finished as the leading wicket-taker and stole the Player of the Series award. Notably, Pakistan clinched a huge victory by 75 runs in the final.

Opting to bat first in the low-scoring thriller, the Men in Green piled up 141/8 in the first innings, with top knocks by Fakhar Zaman (27), Nawaz (25), and Salman Agha (24). Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan clinched a three-wicket haul.

However, Afghanistan completely succumbed to pressure during the chase, facing a humiliating batting collapse with many key batters losing wickets for single digits. Afghanistan were bundled out for just 66 runs in the end.

Notably, both teams won one match against each other during the league stage of the tournament. However, Pakistan completely overpowered Afghanistan in the final to win the trophy. Both teams will now play in the Asia Cup 2025.

The tournament will begin on September 9 in Dubai. While Pakistan are clubbed in Group A, Afghanistan are placed in Group B in Asia Cup 2025. Afghanistan will play the tournament opener against Hong Kong.
