Mohammed Shami completes 200 wickets in ODI cricket, becomes fastest Indian bowler to do so

On Thursday, February 20, Mohammed Shami became the fastest Indian bowler to take 200 wickets in ODIs. He achieved this milestone in India’s first ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh in Dubai.
Bowling first, India got off to a fantastic start, reducing Bangladesh to 35/5 inside the batting powerplay. Shami led the bowling charge by dismissing Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in his opening spell.
He then returned in the 43rd over to claim his 200th ODI wicket, dismissing Jaker Ali and breaking a record 154-run stand for the sixth wicket.
Shami finished his spell with 5/53 in 10 overs to help India restrict Bangladesh for 228 runs.
Mohammed Shami becomes the fastest Indian bowler to take 200 ODI wickets
Mohammed Shami has overtaken Ajit Agarkar to become the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets in ODIs, achieving the milestone in 104 innings compared to Agarkar’s 133.
Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, and Javagal Srinath hold the third, fourth, and fifth spots, reaching the milestone in 144, 147, and 147 innings, respectively.
Since making his ODI debut in 2013, Shami has consistently delivered for India in ICC tournaments. The Bengal pacer was the leading wicket-taker in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, claiming 24 wickets in just seven games.
