After his impressive performance in the ICC Champions Trophy last year, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is waiting for a comeback in the national team.

Shami was the joint highest wicket-taker for India along with Varun Chakravarthy in the Champions Trophy, which India won by defeating New Zealand in the final. Shami last played a test match in 2023 against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final.

Since then, he has been overlooked in the longest format continuously. Moreover, his last stint in the shortest format was the T20I series against England in February 2025.

Although Shami has been overlooked in the Indian team over the last year, he has impressed with his outstanding form in domestic cricket for Bengal.

Shami burst onto the scene in Indian domestic cricket last year with his consistent bowling and continued his impressive form in the second leg of the Ranji Trophy.

In the second semi-final between Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir at Bengal Cricket Academy Ground, the right-arm pacer clinched an eight-wicket haul.

Bengal were bowled out for 302 runs in the first innings. In response, Shami led the team’s pace attack and single-handedly dismantled the opposition. He picked up eight wickets for 90 runs off his 22.1 overs.

His amazing bowling show became a talk of the town among fans, who shared the video of his performance on the micro-blogging platform Twitter (formerly X). Have a look at the video below.

Despite his efforts, Jammu & Kashmir have got a dominating position, needing 126 runs for victory in the fourth innings. After Shami’s heroics, Bengal completely failed with their batting in 2nd innings, getting bowled out for just 99 runs after earning a 26-run lead.
