Mohammed Shami feels that other Indian bowlers should support Jasprit Bumrah in the rest of the games in the ENG vs IND series.

Indian Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami has criticised his team’s poor bowling performance in the first test match against the England Cricket Team. Notably, the Shubman Gill-led side failed to defend a 371-run target at Headingley in Leeds.

England chased down the target by five wickets on the back of a stunning 149-run knock by Ben Duckett. Notably, the hosts had a wonderful start to the chase, with openers Duckett and Zak Crawley etching an 188-run stand for the opening wicket. The spectacular partnership set the platform for the team’s victory like a walk in the park.

Moreover, India also failed to restrict England from going big in the first innings. The visitors piled up a mammoth total of 471/10 in the first innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill hitting centuries.

However, England came very close to India’s total, finishing at 465/10 on the scoreboard. Jasprit Bumrah hunted a fabulous five-wicket haul in the first innings; however, other bowlers failed to support him and leaked a lot of runs.

Other Indian bowlers should talk to Jasprit Bumrah and learn from him: Mohammed Shami

While speaking on his YouTube channel, India pacer Mohammed Shami, who missed the England series due to injury, said that other bowlers should learn from Bumrah and support him. He also feels that India can win the upcoming games if other bowlers support Bumrah.

“In bowling, other Indian bowlers should talk to Bumrah and learn from him. They should talk about planning with him and support him. If they will support Bumrah, then we can easily win the match. If I talk about the first match, then I think we need to do a little work in the bowling,” Shami said.

Shami also feels that Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna’s two-wicket hauls in the second innings were useless as England had already set the platform for victory by that time.

“Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each in the 2nd innings, but by the time Shardul dismissed two England batters, the match was out of India’s reach. It is very important to take wickets with the new ball. They must support Bumrah. England won the first Test because we gave too many easy runs. We need to find out how to make our bowling side strong,” the 34-year-old further added.

Notably, Bumrah went wicketless in the second innings as England batsmen played safely against him to safeguard their wickets. However, the rest of the bowlers failed to capture wickets at important stages and also leaked a lot of runs.

The five-match test series between England and India is 1-0 in favour of the Ben Stokes-led side. The second test will begin on July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. England have named their 15-member squad for the second test, which saw the return of pacer Jofra Archer to the test setup after four long years.
