'Gautam Gambhir's coaching style is...' Mohammed Shami's big remark on former Indian cricketer

Mohammed Shami has been out of action since months due to ankle injury.
Indian veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has made a huge remark on former cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style amid speculations of the former Indian opener potentially becoming the next Indian men’s cricket team head coach.
Last month, the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the post of India head coach. The new head coach will have a three-year all-format term until the end of ODI World Cup 2027.
Current head coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed that the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be his last assignment with the Indian side. Dravid confirmed this news ahead of the Ireland clash on June 5 in New York. Reports have strongly claimed that Gambhir is the front-runner to be Dravid’s successor.
A few days ago, Gambhir, who was on a personal visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said it would be the biggest honour for him to coach Team India.
His coaching style will help young players: Mohammed Shami on Gautam Gambhir
Mohammed Shami, who is sitting out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 due to injury, feels that Gambhir’s coaching style will make the team disciplined which will help youngsters grow into better players.
“His coaching style is direct and enforces discipline that will help young players. He also teaches skill, temperament, and how to handle pressure to the youngsters. This can benefit the youngsters in the Indian team,” Shami said on his YouTube channel.
The veteran pacer praised Gambhir for his success as the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, mentored by Gautam Gambhir, KKR clinched their third IPL trophy by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of IPL 2024.
“Gautam Gambhir’s name is the most talked about. He is a legend of the game, and fans have showered their love on him. As far as leadership is concerned, he has led the IPL team (KKR) to wins. Under his captaincy, KKR won 2 titles and became champion in 2024 under his mentorship,” added Shami.
Shami feels Gambhir’s bold mindset might help the Indian cricket team perform better. The right-arm pacer further said that it will be interesting to see how Gambhir develops his understanding with veteran cricketers.
“However, the crucial question remains – how will he develop an understanding with the experienced members of the team? His experience and strong mentality can undoubtedly help India perform better. His strategic vision and deep understanding of the game can be the key to India winning important games. It is a new chapter, and all eyes will be on BCCI as they make the decision on whether to choose Gautam Gambhir,” Shami said.
