Mohammed Shami rubbishes retirement rumours; Slams media portals

Mohammed Shami has rebuked all rumours of his retirement.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, on Tuesday, May 13, took it to his handle on Instagram to hit out at media reports and rubbished the same, which claimed he will retire from test cricket. Recently, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the longest format of the game.
While Sharma retired from tests last week on May 7, Kohli announced his retirement on Monday (May 12). Both Sharma and Kohli will only represent Indian Cricket Team in ODIs now. After their retirement news, some media portals claimed that Shami will also retire from test cricket.
Notably, Shami last played a test for India in June 2023 during the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 (WTC) final between India and Australia. He missed all the test series during the ICC WTC 2023-25 cycle due to injuries. However, he represented the national side in the limited-overs cricket.
Mohammed Shami slams media portals on Instagram
On Tuesday, May 13, Shami took it to Instagram and shared two stories on his official account. In his stories, he slammed two media portals for spreading rumours about his test retirement.
“Time hai abhi bhi but ham sudhaar kar sakte hain apne bharat desh k lite. Ab ye kon hai bhai aya ABP Baba”. (There is still time [for my retirement], and we can improve for the betterment of our country. Now, who is this new ABP baba)”, he wrote.
“Very well done Maharaj. Apna job ke bhi din bhi gin lo kitna adieu hai. badme dekh le humara. Ap jaise ne satyanash kar diya future ka. Kabi to accha bol liya kare. Aaj ja sabse kharab story. sorry”. (Well done. Now also count the days of your own job. Talk about my job later. People like you have destroyed our future. Can’t you guys say something good sometimes? The worst story of the day, sorry), said Shami in another story.

Notably, Shami was part of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year, where Indian Team crushed New Zealand in the final to win the title. The right-arm pacer was also the joint-highest wicket-taker for India along with spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who both picked nine wickets each. He is likely to be part of India’s squad for the forthcoming test series against England next month.
Meanwhile, Shami is currently busy with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He is a member of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the tournament. He has picked six wickets across nine games at an economy of 11.23. SRH are already out of the race of playoffs, however, will play three more games in the league stage. IPL 2025 will resume on May 17.
