Mohammed Shami slams Sanjay Manjrekar as the latter predicts salary drop for the pacer at IPL 2025 mega auction

Gujarat Titans released Mohammed Shami ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Star Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has grabbed the headlines ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Recently released by Gujarat Titans (GT), Shami’s injury history has made his future in the IPL a topic of discussion.
After spending almost a year out of action due to injury, Shami made an excellent return to competitive cricket during the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, picking up seven wickets against Madhya Pradesh. However, former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar had recently expressed concerns over Shami’s ability to stay fit suggesting that IPL franchises might hesitate to bid high for him.
Speaking to Star Sports Manjrekar said, “There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season, if a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag.“

Following that, Shami has responded to Manjrekar’s statement with a fiery Instagram story. Sharing a screenshot of the quote, Shami wrote: “Baba ki jay ho, thoda gyaan apne future ke liye bhi bacha ke rakho kaam ayega Sanjay G. Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile.“ (Save some of your knowledge for your future, Sanjay. Anyone who wants to know their future can consult him.)

Shami’s response has gone viral on social media adding fuel to the controversy before the mega auction. Notably, this is not the first time Manjrekar has been called out by an active cricketer, Ravindra Jadeja had previously slammed Sanjay Manjrekar, famously asking him to stop his “verbal diarrhea.”
Reports further suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping a close eye on Shami’s fitness and the fast bowler might get added to India squad for the later stages of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
