Mohammed Shami took three wickets in the semi-final clash.
The first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between India and Australia is shaping up to be a thrilling contest at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Batting first, Travis Head guided Australia to a decent powerplay score of 63/2 in 10 overs. Australia’s experiment to include Cooper Connolly over Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement for Matthew Short failed as he bagged a duck on his ICC Champions Trophy debut.
Captain Steve Smith held one end with his 73-run knock. He received solid support from Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey, who added more than 50 runs for the third and fifth-wicket partnerships, respectively.
The game seemed to slip away from India, particularly during the Smith-Carey partnership. The duo countered India’s spinners brilliantly and added 54 runs in 10 overs.
Relief for India came in the 37th over when Mohammed Shami dismissed Smith to break the partnership. Attempting to increase the run rate, the star Australian batsman missed a simple full toss and lost his off stump.
