Mohammed Shami has been out of action since the completion of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been out of cricketing action after the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Shami suffered an ankle injury during the ODI World Cup 2023 and went on to play the whole tournament with the help of painkillers and injections with consultation of doctors at the National Cricket Academy.

The 33-year-old pacer was being monitored by the BCCI medical team and then he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon in February 2024.

Earlier, the veteran speedster missed the two-match test series between South Africa and India in December 2023 and January 2024. The Indian cricket team missed the services of Shami in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in February 2024.

The Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Shami also missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. His absence made a huge impact on the Titans’ campaign as they had a poor show in the tournament. Gujarat didn’t qualify for the playoffs for the first time since their debut in the IPL in 2022.

Adding more to it, BCCI secretary Jay Shah on March 2024, provided a huge update on Shami and said that the senior Indian pacer will miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. However, Jay Shah also added that the 33-year-old pacer might return for the upcoming two-match test series against Bangladesh on September 19.

Mohammed Shami’s childhood coach Badruddin provides crucial update on his availability for Bangladesh test series

Currently, Shami is being monitored by the NCA under the guidance of Head of Sports Science and Medicine at the NCA Dr. Nitin Patel, and the Strength & Conditioning coach Rajinikanth.

Amidst this, Shami’s childhood coach Badruddin has provided a crucial update on his injury. Badruddin revealed that he is very happy with the progress Shami is making but feels it will take some more time to become fully fit and make a comeback to the national side.

Badruddin added that the veteran Indian pacer has started to ball without any discomfort in the nets. “Shami has started bowling. Not with full run-up or full tilt but has started releasing the ball without any discomfort in the nets. This is a good sign because bowling activity has begun,” Badruddin said to News18.
