Mohammed Siraj will look to put up a good show in the upcoming Ranji season.

The Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season is set to bring several Indian players back into domestic cricket as teams prepare for another important red-ball campaign. The tournament will play a crucial role in helping players maintain practice and stay prepared for major assignments with India.

With crucial Test matches for India coming up, domestic cricket will be vital for players looking to regain their form and rhythm. Fast bowlers, in particular, could benefit from practising in this tournament.

India pacer Mohammed Siraj will now have an important role to play for Hyderabad in the upcoming Ranji season. The pacer recently played the Duleep Trophy 2026 final and was looking to get his rhythm after a difficult Test series against Sri Lanka.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association senior selection committee took a strong decision on Friday. They appointed Siraj as the captain for the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season.

Chama Milind will be his deputy and will take charge whenever Siraj is unavailable. The left-arm pacer has also been a regular name in Hyderabad’s domestic setup. Having two experienced pacers in leadership roles will give Hyderabad good options during the tournament.

The captaincy comes at an important time for Siraj, who admitted that a two-month break after the IPL affected his rhythm. He said, “I am purely a rhythm bowler. If I am not in sync, I can’t explode through the crease.”

Siraj had a tough time in the previous Ranji season

Siraj’s first stint as Hyderabad captain came during the previous Ranji Trophy season. He took over from Rahul Singh and led the team against Mumbai and Chhattisgarh.

Hyderabad lost to Mumbai by nine wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In that match, Sarfaraz Khan scored a double century, while Siddesh Lad also scored a century.

The match against Chhattisgarh ended in a draw. Hyderabad had a strong start after centuries from M. Abhirath, K. Jimateja and Pragnay Reddy. However, Amandeep Khare scored an unbeaten century on the final day to help Chhattisgarh save the match.

Siraj has been an important part of India’s bowling attack since making his international debut. He has picked up 144 wickets in 48 Tests and 76 wickets in 50 ODIs. In T20Is, he has taken 17 wickets in 17 matches.

He has also bowled 1,640 overs across formats for India since 2020, which is the most among Indian pacers during this period. The upcoming Ranji Trophy season will give Siraj another opportunity to bowl long spells and prepare himself for India’s next assignment.
