Mohammed Siraj was left in an awkward position after the Indian skipper refused to take DRS on his strong appeal of Labuschagne.

In the morning session of day 2 of the Adelaide test in the ongoing BGT 2024-25, Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj was left humbled when first the on-field umpire turned down his celebrappeal, and then he didn’t get support from his captain Rohit Sharma either as the skipper denied a DRS, which would have eventually gone to waste.

Siraj is well known for his exaggerated emotions while bowling and is often a culprit in his side losing a crucial review. On the field, Siraj’s emotions and passion to claim a wicket get the better of him and he tends to waste a review of his captain.

Rohit avoided this situation on day 2 in Adelaide as he refused to take the DRS even on Siraj’s vehement pleading.

Siraj struck Marnus Labuschange on the pad with a length delivery that came in and went off in a celebrappeal. Feeling confident about gettting Labuschagne’s wicket, Siraj didn’t look back and celebrated but it was only when he saw his teammates dejected he turned around and saw the umpire hadn’t moved.

Siraj pled with Rohit to take the review, confidently suggesting that the batsman was out. However, Rohit and some of the other India players suggested Marnus had nicked the ball. After consulting the fielders around, Rohit decided not to go for a review, leaving Siraj embarrassed about his celebrappeal.

Replays vindicated Rohit’s decision to not take the DRS as Labuschagne had inside-edged the ball.

Meanwhile, Australia ended day 1 in Adelaide in a commanding position, trailing by 94 runs with nine wickets in hand. Jasprit Bumrah then gave India a breakthrough early on day 2 by removing Nathan McSweeney.
