Mohammed Siraj is one of the pacers named in India’s squad for the Afghanistan Test.
India are gearing up for a one-off test against Afghanistan. The encounter will begin on June 6 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Mohammed Siraj is India’s main pacer in the match in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. However, he is doubtful to play in the encounter.
According to reports by TOI, the management is looking to rest Siraj in the clash to manage his workload. He is currently in Chandigarh under the observation of the medical team. The Indian management will take a call on his participation in the next two days.
Siraj had a busy schedule over the last two months with the Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2026. He played in every game for the side, including the final, which GT lost against RCB.
While the management does not want to take any risk with Siraj’s workload, they also do not want to put an inexperienced pace unit against Afghanistan. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar are the other two pacers for India.
Auqib Nabi might replace Mohammed Siraj in India’s squad

If Siraj is released from the Afghanistan Test, Auqib Nabi is highly likely to replace him in India’s squad. Moreover, Gurnoor can also make his Test debut.
“Siraj has had a long season and If he is rested, there is a bright possibility Gurnoor will play and Nabi will come into the squad,” a source was quoted as saying by the TimesofIndia.com.
Nabi has been added to India’s squad as a net bowler. Gurjapneet Singh, Prince Yadav, Saransh Jain, Zeeshan Ansari, and Shivang Kumar are other net bowlers.
Nabi impressed with his performance in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, playing a crucial role in Jammu & Kashmir’s title-winning campaign. He finished as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 60 scalps, including five-wicket hauls in the quarter-final, semi-final, and the final.
