Mohammed Siraj dismissed Sri Lankan opener Lahiru Udara to strike after India enforced a follow-on.
India’s second Test vs Sri Lanka in Colombo has been dominated by strong batting performances and a growing list of injuries. While the visitors already entered Day 3 without Rishabh Pant taking the field due to shoulder pain, concerns have heightened on Day 4 of the SL vs IND second Test.
In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence on the Sri Lanka tour, Mohammed Siraj has been handed the opportunity to lead the pace attack. Prasidh Krishna would feel a massive void if Siraj’s freak injury in the 11th over turned out to be massive enough to rule him out of the remainder of the Test.

During the 11th over of the game, Manav Suthar held the length back against Sri Lankan batter Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who has been constantly sweeping the Indian spinner.
The trick paid off, and the ball took a leading edge towards the mid-wicket region. Attempting to take the catch, Mohammed Siraj came in from deep mid-wicket and then stretched forward on a dive to take the catch. Though he got his hands on the ball, Siraj could not complete the catch.
However, what seemed like a greater concern for the Indian dugout was that Siraj was immediately down, holding onto his ribcage in the very next moment. He landed badly as he tumbled, and the physios had to rush in to take a look at him. Siraj had to be taken off the field, adding to the concerns of captain Shubman Gill, especially when Siraj leads India’s pace attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence.
Siraj’s importance has increased considerably with Jasprit Bumrah unavailable for the Sri Lanka series. Siraj is one of India’s main strike bowlers and has most frequently delivered the first blow to the opposition during this ongoing series, despite a modest tally of wickets in the series.
More than missing out on a bowler, India’s concern would be the workload on pacer Prasidh Krishna alone if Siraj doesn’t return to bowl any further in the game.
However, to relieve Indian captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir of their concerns, Siraj took the field just a few moments later after having left the field to take some precautionary medical attention. Siraj’s injury thankfully was not serious enough to rule him out of participation in the further stages of the match.
