Mohammed Siraj had a poor outing in the third ODI as he leaked 78 runs in nine overs and picked one wicket.
India pacer Mohammed Siraj was involved in a heated exchange with Sri Lanka keeper-batter Kusal Mendis during the third ODI of the SL vs IND ODI series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts posted 248/9 on the board, which proved 110 runs more than what India could manage in their chase as the visitors were bundled out for only 138 runs.
Consequently, Sri Lanka, who had won the second ODI after the first ODI ended in a tie, won their first ODI series over India since 1997, ending a 27-year wait.
Batting at number three, Kusal Mendis played a crucial hand in Sri Lankaâs innings as he scored 59 runs that helped his side reach close to 250. Mendis came in to bat in the 20th over and was dismissed in the 49th over.
He was involved in two vital partnerships of 82 (94) with opener Avishka Fernando and 36 (31) with lower-order batter Kamindu Mendis.
Kusal was also involved in an altercation with India seamer Siraj, who tried to break Mendisâ concentration with verbal attacks. This incident happened during the 39th over of Sri Lankaâs innings.
Mendis defended the third ball of the over. Siraj moved closer to the batter in his follow-through and sledged Mendis. The Sri Lankan batter replied to Siraj who could be seen gesturing something with his hand. This got the crowd excited and they let out a huge roar.
