Mohammed Siraj clinched a six-wicket haul in first innings of the Edgbaston test.

India bowling coach Morne Morkel heaped praise on Mohammed Siraj after his brilliant bowling show in the ongoing second test against England. The second test between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team is underway at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah in the match, Siraj led India’s pace attack in the first innings. He captured six wickets for 70 runs, helping India bowl out England for 407 in the first innings. Siraj registered his second-best bowling figures in test cricket and his first five-wicket haul in England.

Earlier, India posted 587/10 in the first innings and Siraj’s magnificent bowling attack helped them earn a lead of 180 runs. The right-arm pacer also gave the first breakthrough to India in the second innings, dismissing England opener Zak Crawley.

Morne Morkel lauds Mohammed Siraj

While speaking to reporters after stumps of day 4, India bowling coach Morkel said that Siraj often puts in a lot of effort for the team while bowling.

“Siraj is a guy that I have a lot of respect for. He pushes his body to the limit. He can try too hard at times and that can make you inconsistent. But he really puts his heart on his sleeve. He does the dirty job for the team, and that doesn’t reflect in the wickets column at times,” he said.

“I think sometimes the guilty part of him is trying too hard so for us. It’s about managing that sort of aggression and managing that intensity because he really bowls with his heart on his sleeve. I think sometimes those sort of things can give you that inconsistency,” he further added.

The former South Africa pacer also feels that Siraj does not get enough credit for the effort and energy he shows on the field.

“In a match that he’s now the leader of the attack, he got the wickets, but for me in terms of effort and energy and with a sore body, he’s always done and will put his hand up, and he wants to bowl that over. I don’t think sometimes we give him enough credit for that,” he added.

Meanwhile, India have set a gigantic target of 608 runs for England in the Edgbaston test. At the end of day 4, England reeled at 72/3 on the scoreboard, needing 536 more runs for victory. India need seven wickets to win the encounter.
