Top 5 most expensive five-wicket hauls in T20I cricket ft. Arshdeep Singh

Several bowlers have registered expensive five-wicket hauls in T20I cricket.

Bagging a fifer in a cricket match is a huge achievement for any bowler. While a five-wicket haul in a test or ODI match is a common event, clinching five scalps in a T20I match is a rare phenomenon.

Since a bowler can only bowl a four-over spell in a T20I match, stealing five scalps becomes a challenging task. However, many bowlers have grabbed this triumph in the shortest format over the years.

Batters often dominate T20I cricket, and even though many bowlers have claimed five wickets in a single encounter, some of them delivered expensive spells. While they rocked the field with their bowling heroics, their costly spells also grabbed a lot of eyeballs.

On that note, below are the five bowlers with the most expensive five-wicket hauls in T20I cricket.

Most expensive five-wicket hauls-

5. Joshua Rasu (5/36 vs PNG, 2019)

Vanuatu medium-pacer Joshua Rasu takes the fifth spot on this list. In a clash against Papua New Guinea (PNG) in July 2019, he picked a five-wicket haul in his 2.5 overs. However, he conceded 36 runs in his spell.

With his brilliant bowling, Vanuatu bowled out PNG for 181 runs in the first innings after opting to bowl first. Despite his dashing bowling show, his team eventually lost the clash, finishing with 122/9 in the chase.

4. Waseem Abbas (5/37 vs Romania, 2021)

In September 2021, Malta’s pacer Waseem Abbas clinched a five-wicket haul in an encounter against Romania but leaked 37 runs off his four-over spell. In the second semi-final of the Continental Cup, Malta won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Despite Abbas’s fifer, Romania piled up a gigantic total of 202/8. Later, Malta were restricted to 166/8 in the second innings as Waseem’s outstanding bowling efforts went in vain.

3. Lungi Ngidi (5/39 vs South Africa, 2022)

South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi takes the third spot with his five-wicket haul against England in July 2022. In the first game of the three-match series in Bristol, the right-arm pacer registered 5/39 from his four overs.

Although he grabbed the spotlight with his bowling show, the Proteas lost the match by 41 runs in the end. England posted a mammoth 234/6 in the first innings and halted South Africa at 193/8.

2. Alzarri Joseph (5/40 vs South Africa, 2023)

His efforts helped the West Indies to outplay the Proteas by seven runs in a nail-biting clash. South Africa could only reach 213/6 while chasing a 221-run target in the encounter.
