MS Dhoni will be seen in action for the first time in IPL 2026 after a gap of more than one year.
MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise share a huge bond in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni has been with the franchise since its beginning in 2008, barring two years of suspension, and has won them five titles.
MS Dhoni captained CSK to the 2010 and 2011 IPL titles before the franchise was suspended for two years in 2016 and 2017. When the franchise returned to the IPL fold in 2018, Dhoni led a team of experienced players to the title that year and repeated the feat in IPL 2021 and 2023.
Dhoni finally stepped down as CSK captain for the final time in 2024, handing the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad, and has continued to guide the young team from behind the stumps. He has also battled knee injuries and other fitness issues in the last two editions of IPL, leading to rumors of his retirement.
And now it has been revealed that Dhoni was really angry with the CSK management for their one decision ahead of the IPL 2026 and even threatened to retire before the IPL 2026 edition began.
MS Dhoni okayed the deal for Sanju Samson, upset about CSK letting go of Ravindra Jadeja

Ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, there were huge rumours of CSK wanting to move on from their all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and it came true after Jadeja was traded to the Rajasthan Royals (RR), his original franchise, and CSK got Sanju Samson from them.
However, now, reports have stated that Dhoni, who is the boss in CSK on the cricketing side, was not happy with this decision and even threatened not to play for them in IPL 2026. Dhoni and Jadeja are the two names synonymous with the CSK in the IPL
Dhoni even let go of CSK captaincy to make Ravindra Jadeja captain in IPL 2022, only for the experiment to fail. Then there were reports of a clash between the two CSK legends, but Jadeja dispelled those rumours by jumping into Dhoni’s arms after winning the IPL 2024 tournament in Ahmedabad.
Cric Blogger, citing sources, claims that the former captain of CSK reconsidered his participation in IPL 2026 because he was unhappy with CSK’s decision to let go of Jadeja. No such incident involving Dhoni has occurred, according to sources close to the CSK
Internal sources claim that Dhoni had stated early on that Sanju was his preferred replacement. The former Indian captain approved of Samson because he thought the Kerala star had a lot of potential. But Jadeja has been an essential part of the CSK squad, and he was unwilling to let her go.
“MS Dhoni has even told the franchise that this year would be his last with Chennai Super Kings after the swap,” the source added.
If Jadeja ends up bowling to his former captain in this year’s IPL, fans are already fantasizing about an exciting on-field encounter.
Supporters are excited to watch how the two seasoned comrades would handle such an uncommon match, and the prospect of the legendary CSK pair squaring off as rivals has created a lot of buzz on social media.
