There are just a few days left until the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The season opener will take place at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Ahead of the first match, a video has gone viral which showcases the preparations for a grand opening ceremony at the venue.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the partial schedule of the IPL 2024 due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A total of 21 matches will be played from March 22 to April 7 in the first phase of the league.
A latest video which is going viral across social media platform âXâ (formerly Twitter) showcases the stadium prepping for a spectacular lights ceremony, setting the stage for the much-anticipated Southern Derby between CSK and RCB.

The IPL 2024 opening ceremony is expected to be more extravagant than the ones in previous editions. Some famous Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, as well as musical legends AR Rahman and Sonu Nigam may perform at the showpiece event.
CSK suffer two big blows ahead of IPL 2024 opener
Ahead of the high-voltage encounter against RCB, defending champions CSK will miss the services of their star players Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana, who are set to miss a few IPL 2024 games due to their respective injuries.
Conway suffered a left thumb injury during the NZ vs AUS T20I series this year. While Pathirana pulled his hamstring during the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2024. Meanwhile, captain MS Dhoni who underwent knee injury last year is fully fit for the upcoming 17th edition of the IPL.
