MS Dhoni was sidelined at the start of the tournament due to a calf injury.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a season of ups and downs so far in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, winning 3 games in 8 matches. They started the tournament with three consecutive losses, and one of the major factors was the absence of their former captain, MS Dhoni, who didn’t play due to injury, along with Dewald Brevis.

Brevis, however, regained match fitness sooner, and CSK got back on track by winning 3 of their next 4 games. After that, they once again lost to Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground. So far, it has been an unpredictable season for the five-time champions, and in order to qualify for the playoffs, they need to be more consistent.

The return of MS Dhoni has been a big question among fans, as the team has been lacking his experience on the field lately. It was reported that MS Dhoni was fit but didn’t want to play as it could hamper the winning combination.

However, the recent loss has raised a few questions regarding the lineup. On that note, let’s have a look at the possible date of Dhoni’s comeback.

It has been reported by journalist Rohit Juglan that MS Dhoni is set to make his comeback against the Mumbai Indians on 2nd May at Chepauk. A calf injury has sidelined Dhoni since the start of the season, and CSK initially said that he would need two weeks to recover.

However, even after four weeks of the tournament, there has been no official confirmation from the CSK about his availability. Dhoni has been the most successful captain of the franchise, winning them five IPL trophies in his career.

Ruturaj Gaikwad was chosen last year to follow in his footsteps, but so far the team hasn’t quite clicked, and they will be needing Dhoni’s experience on the field. His finishing ability will also come in handy, as the team has lacked intent in the middle and death overs lately, and even at this age, they will rely on their former captain to do this job for them.
