MS Dhoni has scored 96 runs in 8 innings in the IPL 2023 at a strike-rate of 204.25 so far.

Chennai Super Kings' skipper MS Dhoni, despite nursing a knee injury, has been leading his team and playing the role of a finisher in the last few overs of matches during the IPL 2023 campaign. Due to his injury, the 41-year-old has been restricted to batting in the lower order and contributing as much as possible to the team's score.

Although fans have been hoping to see him bat higher up the order, Dhoni's physical limitations have made that difficult. In the match against Delhi Capitals at the Chepauk Stadium, CSK found themselves struggling at 126/6, and once again, Dhoni came out to bat in the final overs, contributing 20 runs in 9 balls before being dismissed by Mitchell Marsh. Despite this setback, he helped CSK reach a total of 167 runs, leading the team to a 27-run victory.

At a strike rate of 222, the renowned wicketkeeper-batsman, MS Dhoni hammered 20 runs off just nine deliveries, before being dismissed by Mitchell Marsh. His quick cameo helped CSK reach a total of 167 runs against Delhi, and they ultimately triumphed by 27 runs.

Stephen Fleming hints at Dhoni continuing role as finisher in CSK's IPL 2023 campaign

Following Chennai's victory, head coach Stephen Fleming suggested that MS Dhoni is expected to maintain the same role he has been playing throughout this season, and fans should prepare to witness similar cameo appearances from the skipper.

“He’s just training a certain way, he knows he’s not going bat for a long time. He concentrated more on the last three overs. He’s not as mobile between the wickets although today he pushed really hard. So, he’s concentrated on really strong hitting practice," said Fleming, speaking at the post-match press conference.

“You can see the benefits of that. He is just very comfortable being able to play around the ground. We know how good a hitter he is and his access in certain areas is still very strong. That cameo again at the end was valuable in a hard-fought 20 overs," added Fleming.
