After completion of CSK’s campaign in IPL 2024, MS Dhoni is reportedly planning to get treatment for his muscle tear in London.

With the conclusion of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, former skipper MS Dhoni is reportedly planning to fly to London for surgery on muscle tear injury he suffered during the season.

A source has told the news agency IANS that Dhoni “wants to continue” to play cricket, but currently, he is dealing with an injury for which he wants to get treated, and only after his recovery will he take a call on whether he intends to play.

Against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday night, Dhoni failed to take CSK over the line in the last over. CSK needed 17 runs in six balls to enter the playoffs.

Dhoni even smoked a six on the first ball off Yash Dayal, but got out on the second ball. Dayal kept calm under pressure and closed out the over safely against Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja to storm RCB into the playoffs. This is only the third time in the IPL history that CSK have failed to qualify for the playoffs.

A CSK source told IANS, “Dhoni might head to London for his muscle tear surgery, which saw him struggling during the IPL. He is not fully fit but wants to continue to play cricket, and he will only decide about his future after treatment, which will take him five to six months to recover.”

Last year, soon after leading CSK to the IPL 2023 trophy, MS Dhoni had surgery on his left knee. He was seen struggling with the same thing this season. Dhoni will turn 43 in July this year, so it seems unlikely at the moment that we will be able to see the Ranchi-born in next year’s IPL.

Dhoni was in a cracking touch this season with the bat. He scored 161 runs off 73 balls, managing a jaw-dropping strike rate of 220. The CSK legend walloped 14 fours and 13 sixes in the season.

CSK batting coach Michael Hussey has no clue on MS Dhoni’s future

CSK’s batting coach Michael Hussey said he doesn’t have a clue about Dhoni’s potential retirement plans, but Hussey wishes that the former captain could continue for a couple of more seasons.

Hussey told ESPN, “Your guess is as good as mine at this stage. He keeps his cards very, very close to his chest. We are hoping he does keep going. He is still batting so well. He does prepare well – he gets into the camp very early and hits a lot of balls. He has been in good touch all season really. I guess we just got to try to manage him from the body side of things.
