Rohit Sharma opens up on MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik’s chances for ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The preparations for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are on. The Indian cricketers who are likely to play in the coming event are involved in the Indian Premier League 2024. The IPL 2024 is scheduled to conclude on May 26 and the mega event will start in the USA and West Indies in June. A total of 20 teams will take part and India will start their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.

The Indian squad is likely to be announced in the first week of May and the national selection committee will have a big headache as players are doing well in IPL 2024. It will be a big decision to make for them about who should be picked and who should not. However, the big question is: who will be the wicket-keeper for Team India?

Rohit Sharma makes big statement regarding MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik’s selection

Notably, India have to choose one or two among Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma and Ishan Kishan. All these are doing great in the ongoing IPL 2024. However, it looks like Indian captain Rohit Sharma has something else on his mind. During a discussion on the Club Prairie Fire podcast with Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, the Indian captain lauded Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni, for the way they have played in IPL 2024.

Karthik has scored 226 runs at an average of 75.33 and an exceptional strike rate of 205.45 with 18 sixes. On the other hand, Dhoni has faced 25 balls so far and scored 59 runs at a strike rate of 236. Sharma also talked about Dhoni’s 4-ball 20 runs cameo against Mumbai Indians. However, when asked about the first-choice keeper, Rohit said that MSD might not be available, but DK can make it. He stated, “It’ll be hard to convince MSD to come to the West Indies, I guess. He is sick and tired. DK will be easy to convince I guess.”

Notably, during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai, Rohit Sharma was heard speaking to Karthik about his possible selection for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. It ignited speculation about Karthik’s inclusion in the Indian squad. Adding to that, Rohit revealed that he was trying to put Karthik under pressure, but after the latter’s blistering knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the veteran keeper texted him and said, “I think that some captain was asking if I was ready for the World Cup, this is the answer from me.”
