[Watch] Did Mumbai Indians cheat against Punjab Kings? Video of instigation for DRS goes viral
The umpiring in the match came in for criticism as both officials missed multiple calls for wides and catches.
The Mumbai Indians were accused of cheating after Tim David was seen signaling to Suryakumar Yadav from the dugout to take DRS for a wide after he had watched the replay. The incident happened in the 33rd match of IPL 2024 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
During the IPL 2024 match between Punjab and Mumbai in Mullanpur, there were several contentious rulings since third umpire Nitin Menon was under pressure during the game, which went down to the wire and ended in a last-over thriller. According to some fans, Suryakumar Yadav reconsidered an on-field umpire’s call only after seeing the signals from the dugout, which left Mark Boucher and Tim David visibly angry.
In the 15th over of the MI innings, Arshdeep Singh bowled a pitch away from the batter’s arc, but umpire Vineet Kulkarni did not call it wide, despite batter Suryakumar’s trigger movement toward the ball. Suryakumar seemed to have not reviewed the ruling immediately after it was made, but a few seconds later, umpire Vineet was seen delivering the verdict upstairs. After the review from the third umpire, on-field umpire Vineet Kulkarni signaled the delivery by Arshdeep Singh as a wide ball.
