In the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024), the defending champions Mumbai Indians will commence their title defense against last season’s runner-ups, Delhi Capitals. The clash between these two top teams from the previous season is set to kickstart the second season of the league on February 23, following the significant success of the tournament last year. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians will aim to retain the coveted title in the highly anticipated WPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians emerged as the champions in WPL 2023
In the previous season, Mumbai Indians secured the second position in the group stage, tied on points with Delhi Capitals but settling for second place due to a lower Net Run Rate (NRR). They proceeded to the playoffs, where they triumphed over UP Warriorz, earning a spot in the final. Mumbai Indians emerged victorious in the final against Delhi Capitals, securing their maiden WPL title. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the top run-scorer for Mumbai with 332 runs in 10 matches, while Hayley Mathews claimed the most wickets, taking 16 wickets in the same number of matches.
