Wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim bagged a massive record in his career, becoming the first Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 tests. The right-handed batter achieved the feat in the ongoing second test against Ireland, which commenced on Saturday, November 19 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
The Ireland tour of Bangladesh 2025 comprises two games, with the hosts leading the series 1-0. In the opening game at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet, the Najmul Hossain Shanto & Co. crushed Ireland by an innings and 47 runs.
In the ongoing second test, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Rahim, batting at number five, came to bat following Shanto’s dismissal, with Bangladesh reeling at 95/3 on the board after losing three early wickets.

Notably, Rahim is far ahead of other Bangladesh players on the list of players with 100 tests. The next on the list is former captain Mominul Haque with 75 games, followed by Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal with 71 and 70 tests respectively. Ahead of his 100th test, Rahim was felicitated with a special memento by Habibul Bashar, who captained Mushfiqur in his debut test, and Najmul Hossain Shanto, captain for his 100th. He was offered signed jerseys of the players part of the second Bangladesh vs Ireland test. Speaking on the occasion, Rahim thanked his family, teammates, coaches and the Ireland team.
“I would like to thank all of you, my family and especially my wife who has spent a lot of sleepless night for me, and most importantly my teammates and my coaches, my friends back home and also all my fans. So I just want to wish all the best for Bangladesh cricket in future,” he said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“I will give my 100% as I always try. And I hope for the best and also the Ireland cricket team, thank you so much for being here as well. And hopefully we have a great test match to celebrate. Thank you very much. Special thanks to the Ireland team,” he added.
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old batter made his test debut in 2005 in a clash against England at Lord’s. At an average of 38+, he has mustered over 6300 runs in 183 innings, slamming 12 centuries and 27 half-centuries.
