Naseem Shah was the most expensive player at the PSL 2026 auction.

Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah is once again in the news. This time, it is not for his bowling but for off-field issues. The young pacer has struggled to stay to remain in the good books of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the recent years. These concerns are now affecting his place in the national team.

Naseem was once seen as Pakistan’s future pace leader. He impressed fans with his early performances, including a hat-trick against Bangladesh. He also played an important role in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

However, things have changed quickly. He was moved down to Category C in the central contracts list. His demotion made headlines as fans gave mixed responses.

Naseem recently suffered a side strain during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match. The injury has now forced him to miss the rest of the tournament as per a report by Telecom Asia Sport. This raised fresh questions about his fitness and long-term availability.

Shah was a part of The Rawalpindiz squad for PSL 2026. He was the most expensive player and was bought for PKR 86.5 Million. In the 2026 edition, he played only 2 matches, took a single wicket and conceded 51 and 26 runs against Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings respectively.

At the same time, his off-field actions have also created problems for him. He was fined heavily for a social media post about Pakistan-Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz. The PCB was not happy with his explanation, when he said his account was hacked.

Apart from injuries, his discipline has also come under question. Reports suggest that he has been focusing too much on advertisements and podcasts. This has affected his performance and preparation.

PCB is now closely monitoring Naseem Shah. His repeated injuries have frustrated the selectors and medical staff. Sources say that Naseem will soon appear before the PCB medical panel. The panel is led by Dr Javed Mughal. They will assess his injury and decide his recovery plan. He is expected to undergo a detailed rehabilitation program before returning to cricket.
