Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon is out of the action due to calf strain.

Australia got a big setback during the second Ashes Test at the Lord’s against England. Star off-spinner Nathan Lyon, after playing his 100th Test in continuation, is in line to miss the remainder of the Ashes 2023. Nathan Lyon pulled up his calf muscle and sat out of the action from the 37th over of England’s innings. The Australian team is still waiting for the updates after the scan reports, as he went through a few scans on day two. On day three, Lyon arrived on the ground on crutches giving Australian fans a tense morning feeling. Lyon played an important role in Australia’s Edgbaston test win. Lyon Bowled brilliantly and also helped with the bat to beat England by 2 wickets.

Australian team management is assessing the situation of Nathan Lyon’s injury. As quoted by ESPNCricinfo, Cricket Australia spokesperson said, “Nathan Lyon will require a period of rehabilitation after this match is concluded. A decision regarding his availability for the remainder of the series will be made at the conclusion of the game”. The Australian vice-captain also said this morning, “Nathan is not doing too well, we will struggle to see him out today. Hopefully I don’t need to do a heap of bowling”. Australia used Travis Head and Steve Smith as their spin bowlers at the end of Day 2.

Australia have Todd Murphy warming the benches for his opportunity. If Nathan Lyon is ruled out of the Ashes, Murphy will have a big role in his hand. Murphy did well against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Nathan Lyon got injured chasing a shot in the 37th over and pulled up his calf muscle. Immediately after Lyon pulled up his muscle, physio was called in and Lyon had to walk back to the dressing room. Australia got off to a good start on day 3 as they picked up Ben Stokes and Harry Brook early in the first hour. Australia scored 416 runs in the first innings.
