ENG vs NED: Netherlands playing XI vs England, Match 40, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 – Predicted
Netherlands will face England in match No. 40 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Pune.
Netherlands are the only associate nation in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. But the way they have performed in some games and have been commendable. Dutch have won two games against their bigger opponents and have impressed everyone. They have two more games left to play, and they can try to do well to give themselves a shot at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Netherlands will face England in their next game, which will be played at the MCA Stadium in Pune on Wednesday. England have struggled poorly and have only won once so far. Thus, they can expect to put the defending champions under more pressure. Hence, we will talk here about the predicted playing XI for Netherlands against England.
ENG vs NED: Netherlands’ Predicted playing XI vs England
1. Wesley Barresi :
Wesley Barresi missed out in the last game and got out for one run. But he is the most experienced player for his team, having played in the 2011 World Cup in India. He looked good in the previous match and scored 41 runs. Barresi will be expected to give a good start to his team so that they can score well against England.
2. Max O’Dowd :
After a string of low scores, Max O’Dowd looked pretty good in the last game against Afghanistan. He scored a fluent 42 but was unfortunate to get run out. But he will feel confident after that knock, and his presence is very important for Netherlands because he is a free-flowing batter who loves taking on the bowlers.
3. Colin Ackermann :
The in-form player, Colin Ackermann, is at No. 3 for Netherlands. He has been pretty consistent with his performances in two departments. Colin has scored runs under pressure and taken a few wickets as well. He has scored 181 runs so far and taken five wickets with the ball. His dual role will be key for his team against the defending champions.
4. Sybrand Engelbrecht :
Sybrand Engelbrecht has been the highest scorer for Netherlands in this tournament so far. He has played one game less than others but has scored 222 runs at an average of 37. Engelbrecht looked good even in the last game but got out at the wrong time. He will be looking to carry on his form and do well against England, which can help his team register another historic win.
5. Scott Edwards (c & wk) :
Dutch skipper Scott Edwards is another key player in the middle-order, and is the backbone of the batting line-up. He has scored half-centuries in both wins for his team and scored tough runs when others failed. Edwards has made 204 runs at 40.80 and will be the man to watch out for on Wednesday.
6. Bas de Leede :
Bas de Leede has been tremendous with the ball but has failed to convert his starts into big ones with the bat. He has scored 117 runs but taken 11 wickets with the ball. De Leede is the x-factor in this team, and can win games in both departments. His team will expect him to deliver something special in this game.
7. Saqib Zulfiqar :
Saqib Zulfiqar is a pretty decent all-rounder who can contribute with the bat and ball. But is yet to make his mark in this tournament. Though he has played only two games, he can be a surprise package for the opposition. Zulfiqar can hit the ball long and is a handy spinner who can turn the ball to trouble the batters.
8. Logan van Beek :
Logan van Beek has been the standout performer for Netherlands whenever they are under pressure. He has scored tough runs at No. 8 and taken wickets with the new ball. Logan has scored 122 runs at an average of 30.50 and taken 10 wickets at 28.10. His all-round skills are valuable for the team, and he can be the game-changer against England.
9. Roelof van der Merwe :
Roelof van der Merwe is a competitor who is always in the face of the batters. The 38-year-old has played enough on English county circuit and can be a challenge for English batters on the slow surface. England’s batters are already under pressure, and he can utilize the conditions to good effect in Pune.
10. Aryan Dutt :
It is a very hard job for a spinner to bowl in the powerplay with not much turn. But Aryan Dutt has done that brilliantly so far. He has taken 8 wickets at an economy rate of 5.07, which has given his team good starts with the ball. Dutt will have a similar job and will look to give a few early breakthroughs. He will be effective against right-handers like Bairstow and Root early on.
11. Paul van Meekeren :
Paul van Meekeren is the new-ball specialist for Netherlands, who has taken wickets up front to give his team a good start. He has taken 10 wickets in seven matches so far and got crucial wickets. He is a pretty skiddy bolwer who makes a good angle from wide of the crease to trouble the batters. So far, he has been successful doing it, and it will be interesting to see the same on Wednesday.
