New York increases security after security threat to India vs Pakistan match in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

India will play three group stage games in New York.
The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be jointly hosted by United States of America (USA) and the two-time T20 World champions West Indies. The global tournament will be played from June 1. In the marquee tournament, all eyes will be on the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9.
The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium will host a total of eight matches from June 3 to June 12 in the T20 World Cup 2024. Before that, the New York security has received a massive threat. Notably, the threat is mainly for the high-octane India vs Pakistan match, which will be played on June 9 at the very same stadium.
To make sure of the smooth conduct of all the matches, the security around the stadium has been tightened to ensure public safety. Kathy Hochul, who is the Governor of the state of New York said that her team is working with the top authorities to make sure that their is no threat to public safety during the T20 World Cup 2024.
“I have also directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes,” Kathy Hochul said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
“Public safety is my top priority and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe, enjoyable experience,” Kathy Hochul added.
No credible threat at this time: Kathy Hochul
New York Governor Hochul said that there is no credible threat as of now. Hochul also added that she has directed New York police to take all the major steps to ensure the smooth conduct of all the T20 World Cup 2024 matches in New York.
“In preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024, my team has been working with federal & local law enforcement to keep attendees safe. While there is no credible threat at this time, I’ve directed New York Police to elevate security measures & we’ll continue to monitor as the event nears,” wrote Kathy Hochul on her X account.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) also has assured the cricket fans that the security of everyone at the T20 World Cup 2024 is the top priority. The apex cricket council is working closely with the host countries to make sure that every risk is eliminated during the tournament.
“The safety and security of everyone at the event is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place. We work closely with authorities in our host countries and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event,” an ICC spokesperson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
