New Zealand call-up Kyle Jamieson as cover after Matt Henry suffers hamstring injury

Kyle Jamieson to join New Zealand World Cup Squad as cover for injured Matt Henry.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is just a few games away from the start of the semi-finals, and every game has now become a do-or-die contest. New Zealand, who started the tournament with four consecutive wins, are feeling the pressure now. They have lost three back-to-back games, which has put their semi-finals scenario in question. New Zealand suffered a 190-run defeat on Wednesday against South Africa in Pune, which also affected their NRR.
Apart from their current performances, New Zealand have also suffered injuries to their key players. Skipper Kane Williamson has only played one game and is sitting on the bench, while James Neesham and Mark Chapman are struggling with their respective injuries. Then, pacer Matt Henry suffered a hamstring injury in the game against South Africa in Pune. He couldn’t even finish his sixth over and left the field.
Kyle Jamieson called up as backup for injured Matt Henry
New Zealand will play their next game against Pakistan in Bangalore on Saturday, which is a must-win contest for them. But with everything on the line, New Zealand will have to win that game. As a result, New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) has called up Kyle Jamieson as the backup for injured Matt Henry. He is expected to arrive on Thursday and will be joining the squad.
Neesham has a bruised right wrist after he was hit by a ball during the first innings in Pune. After the X-ray reports came in, the broken bones were confirmed, while Chapman is suffering from a calf injury. However, Neesham will likely play against Pakistan. On the other hand, Jamieson is recovering from an Achilles injury, has been cleared fit through scans, and might play against Pakistan.
New Zealand have two more games to play and need to win both matches. They will play Pakistan on Saturday (November 4) and Sri Lanka on Thursday (November 9). Both games will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They are currently in fourth place with 8 points and a NRR of +0.484. If they win both games, they will directly make it to the next round.
