IPL 2024: Nitish Kumar Reddy posts a special message for his father after PoTM performance vs PBKS
Nitish Kumar Reddy smashed 67 runs against PBKS in Mullanpur.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy grabbed the spotlight with his blistering 34-ball 67 against Punjab Kings in match No. 23 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on April 9.
Reddy, who was playing his second match of the ongoing 17th edition of the IPL, demonstrated his skills and ability to score quick runs against Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab. During his match-winning knock of 64 runs, the 20-year-old hammered four boundaries and five sixes with an impressive strike rate of over 170.
He along with Abdul Samad added a crucial 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket as the visitors scored 182/9 in 20 overs. Interestingly, the Reddy was the only one for Hyderabad to score above 30 runs, as the second-best was 25 by Abdul Samad. In the end, Pat Cummins’ SRH managed to win the match by just two runs.
Nitish Kumar Reddy posts an emotional Instagram post about his father after PBKS vs SRH clash
Nitish’s father Mutalya Reddy previously worked with Hindustan Zinc before he quit his job when he was transferred to Udaipur. He quit his job to focus on his son’s cricketing career. The SRH all-rounder had started playing cricket at the age of five with a plastic bat.
Nitish’s father supported him when Nitish visited Vishakapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) camps and was taken under the coaches Kumara Swamy, Krishna Rao and Watekar.
In his latest Instagram post, the 20-year-old sensation uploaded a photo with his dad where both of them were seen hugging each other after the PBKS vs SRH clash on Tuesday. Below that, Nitish wrote a heartfelt message for his father.
“I am really very happy that I Made my father proud. He fought against all odds to make me what i am today, he sacrificed his life for me. Those happy tears from my parents after last game made my day more special,” Nitish wrote.

Big contribution for my team and for myself: Nitish Kumar Reddy after winning Player of Match Award
After winning the Player of the Match Award, the 20-year-old all-rounder stated that it’s a very big contribution for his side and also for himself. Nitish added that the PBKS seamers were bowling really well, and he didn’t want to take any chances against them. He said that he wanted to take chances against their spinners, and it worked for him.
For me it’s like a big contribution for my team and for myself. I have been telling myself that I should believe in myself. The seamers were bowling really well, I didn’t want to take on them. I knew that the spinners would come and I wanted to attack them, I just did that. The whole tournament, they are bowling slow bouncers and it’s really working. I also used the dimensions to get the wicket. I just want to continue this performance with the bat or ball or with the fielding, I just want to be like this,” Nitish said during post-match presentation.
