No Indian makes the cut as ICC announces men's ODI team of the year 2024

The ICC men’s ODI team of the year 2024 consists of four Sri Lankans.
The ICC men’s ODI team of the year 2024 was announced on January 24 by the cricket’s governing council.
ODI cricket took a backseat last year as test cricket and T20Is were given priority by the top boards. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 hogged the attention in the first half of the year and the second half saw a lot of test action as teams tussled for a place in the ICC World Test Championship final.
Sri Lanka was only team who played more than 20 ODIs in 2024 and hence it’s no surprise that there are four Sri Lankan players in the ICC men’s ODI team of the year 2024.
Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz are the openers in the ICC men’s ODI team of the year 2024. Ayub averaged 64 in ODIs in 2024 and Gurbaz averaged 48.
The Sri Lankan trio of Kusal Mendis (742 runs), Pathum Nissanka (694 runs), and Charith Asalanka (605 runs) were the three highest run-scorers in ODIs in 2024 and hold the middle-order in the ICC men’s ODI team of the year 2024.
The jury has gone with West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford as the finisher. The left-hander scored 425 runs at a strike rate of 120 and averaged a whopping 106.
The all-rounders in this team are Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. Last year in ODIs, Omarzai scored 417 runs and snapped 17 wickets, while Hasaranga snared 26 wickets.
The bowling attack in the ICC men’s ODI team of the year 2024 is all Asian: Shaheen Afridi (15 wickets at an average of 17), Haris Rauf (13 wickets at 22) and Afghanistan’s mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar (21 wickets at 13).
ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2024:
Saim Ayub, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (WK), Charith Asalanka (C), Sherfane Rutherford, Azmatullah Omarzai, Wanindu Hasaranga, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, AM Ghazanfar.
