Jasprit Bumrah has taken 14 wickets in three games in the ongoing ENG vs IND test series.

Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s leading bowler across formats since years. But, the injuries due to workload have been an issue with him. That is why the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team advised him to play only three tests during India’s five-match test tour of England.

India are currently on a five-match test tour of England and the series stands 2-1 in favour of the hosts after first four tests. While England won the first and third tests at Headingley and the Lord’s, India registered a massive win in the second test at Edgbaston and played out a brilliant draw in fourth test at Manchester’s Old Trafford.

The fifth and final test of the series is all set to be played at The Oval from July 31. However, a major concern for India has been the availability of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was advised to play only three out of five tests to manage his workload.

With India needing a win in the fifth test at The Oval to draw the series 2-2, it was heavily speculated if Bumrah would play one more test.

However, it has now been learnt that Bumrah will not play the fifth test at The Oval. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI’s medical team has advised Jasprit Bumrah to stand by the decision of playing only three tests.

The report further added that Akash Deep, who was ruled out of the fourth test in Manchester due to groin injury, will replace Bumrah in the playing XI for the fifth test. Akash Deep was also seen bowling in full rhythm during India’s optional training session on Tuesday.

Bumrah picked 14 wickets in three games he appeared in the ongoing test series at an average of 26. He also picked two five-wicket hauls. Meanwhile, Akash Deep has played two tests in the ongoing tour and picked 11 wickets at an average of 28.09.

Meanwhile, despite India including Narayan Jagadeesan in the squad for the fifth test, Dhruv Jurel is most likely to replace injured Rishabh Pant in the playing XI for The Oval test. Jurel had kept wickets in the Lord’s test as well as the Manchester test after Pant suffered injuries.
