'There is no recipe for success,': MS Dhoni reveals his secret to success in the IPL
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings defeated DC by a huge margin of 77 runs in their last league game of IPL 2023.
David Warner failed to spoil the Chennai Super Kings' party in their last league encounter of IPL 2023. Chennai Super Kings comprehensively defeated Delhi Capitals by 77 runs. Chennai have also confirmed their clash with Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at Chepauk. Chennai finished 2nd in the points table with 17 points in 14 games. Batting first, Chennai had a brilliant run in batting. Chennai put on 223 runs on the board with the help of Ruturaj Gaikwad (79) and Devon Conway’s (87) outstanding 141 runs partnership. Shivam Dube (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (20) also contributed with little cameos. Shivam Dube as usual was at his best against spinners and smashed 3 sixes. Delhi batters failed to make a big partnership in a big run chase. Only captain David Warner could contribute with a big score. Only 3 Delhi batters crossed the single-digit mark. Apart from Warner, Yash Dhull (13) and Axar Patel (15) everyone else ended up in double digits. There was a big void for a big partnership in Delhi’s chase of 224.
Warner remained consistent till the end
Delhi Capitals captain David Warner smashed 86 runs in 58 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. Apart from Ravindra Jadeja, everyone in CSK’s bowling attack contained Capitals. Deepak Chahar with a 3/22 spell was the leading wicket-taker in the game. Captain Warner remained the only consistent batter for Delhi this season. He scored 516 runs in 14 innings in the IPL 2023. Warner needed support from the other end in most of the games Delhi played. Talking about his performance, David Warner said, “I try to be as consistent as I can at the top of the order. You have to give yourself a chance. Our powerplay was not the best this year and we have to work hard on that”. Delhi had a dismal performance this year, they are in competition with Sunrisers Hyderabad to finish bottom. Warner emphasised the fact that they need to regroup as a unit for the next season. Warner further added, “It is about going back to the drawing room, regrouping, and coming back stronger in the next year”. Delhi won only 5 out of their 14 league games.
MS Dhoni shares his secret to success in the IPL
Out of 14 IPL seasons, CSK missed out twice in the playoffs round. CSK will be playing in the playoffs round for the 12th time in their 14 IPL seasons. 9 times they have played in IPL finals and emerged victorious in 4 seasons. CSK are one of the most successful IPL teams. Talking about their success rate in the tournament MS Dhoni said, “There is no recipe for this, You try to pick the best players and try to give them the best slot. You use them in the manner where they have the most chances of succeeding and groom them in the areas where they are not best at. If you are doing your best as management everything will fall into line”. MS Dhoni was all about talking about his strategies today. Talking about the qualities he looks for in a player, MS Dhoni said, “You need someone who is always team first. Those are the kind of characters you look for. From a distance, it is difficult to judge that. We want them to adjust to the environment. Even if they try to come to 10%, we are willing to go to 50% and meet them in the middle”.
Ruturaj looking for a long inning with Chennai
CSK Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was awarded Player of the Match for his 79 runs innings. Gaikwaad smashed 3 fours and 7 sixes in his 50-ball innings. Gaikwad added 141 runs for the opening wicket along with Devon Conway, who went on to score 87 runs. Talking about his innings, Ruturaj said, “It is an important game to win, it was a must-win game and it was an important game for me as well. Thankful for this wonderful franchise for backing me throughout and hopefully it can continue for many years to come”. Ruturaj has scored 504 runs in 13 innings for Chennai in the IPL 2023.
