Asia Cup 2025 will begin on September 9 in UAE.
In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj are expected to be overlooked by selectors for the Asia Cup 2025 squad. The Indian Cricket Team will open their campaign on 10th September in the tournament, which will begin on 9th September in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Notably, Gill and Siraj were the standout performers for India during the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. With 754 runs, including four centuries, Gill finished as the highest run-scorer in the five-match series. Siraj took 23 scalps to finish as the highest wicket-taker in the series.
Gill also delivered a wonderful batting performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, scoring 650 runs in 15 games as an opener for the Gujarat Titans (GT). But despite that, he is unlikely to be picked as Indian selectors are highly likely to retain the current pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as openers for the Asia Cup.
Moreover, Gill is also not in contention to be picked as the third opener in the squad, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being a strong contender. The other batters in contention are Tilak Varma, Suraykumar Yadav, and Rinku Singh.
Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar are also strong contenders; however, Shreyas Iyer might also be overlooked for the tournament. Jitesh Sharma is expected to occupy the second wicket-keeper’s slot in the squad.
Jasprit Bumrah to be picked over Mohammed Siraj in Asia Cup 2025 squad

In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah is highly expected to make the cut. The other pacers in contention are Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh. Hardik Pandya is highly expected to be picked as the fourth seamer.
Vice-captain Axar Patel, with his ability to both bowl and bat, will be a crucial part of the squad. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is highly unlikely to be considered for the Asia Cup 2025. In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi will be at the forefront.
Meanwhile, Indian selectors will conduct a meeting on August 19 in Mumbai to pick the squad for the Asia Cup 2025. India, the defending champions of the tournament, are part of Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman.
