Virat Kohli scored 190 runs including one century in five tests in the recent Australia tour.

Following the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Indian star batter Virat Kohli has made a shocking revelation. By stating that he may not have another Australia tour left in him and that he is content with his accomplishments, he gave away a huge clue about his impending retirement.

Virat Kohli, an Indian batsman who joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, made these remarks at the RCB Innovation Lab. Since the league is scheduled to start on March 22, the batter joined the team on Saturday, March 15, in Bengaluru.

In the test series against Australia, Virat Kohli didn’t play well. It was unexpected that the batter, who had begun the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024–25 on a high note, struggled to get going. Kohli hit an unbeaten 100 in the first test in Perth that India won by 295 runs.

However, in the next four tests, Virat Kohli only made 90 runs as India lost the five-match test series 1-3. In the channel outside off, the pacers from Australia caused a lot of trouble for the top batsman. He appeared completely irritated with the manner in which he was losing the series and continued nicking the balls there.

I might not have another Australia tour in me, so I am at peace—Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli appeared uncharacteristic in the home series even prior to the Australia test series. Since 2020, the right-hander has been mediocre in the mid-20s, which says a lot about the decline he has seen in the game’s longest format.

“For a long time, the tour of England in 2014 bothered me the most. But I can’t look at it that way. I might not have an Australia tour again in four years. I don’t know. You have to make peace with whatever’s happened in your life. In 2014, I still had the chance to go in 2018 and do what I did. It might not have been the case. It might have been another blunder. But it didn’t turn out that way,” Kohli stated during the RCB event.

India are now expected to tour Australia again in 2028, and there are chances that Virat Kohli might not be there with the team.

So, there’s no such thing as guarantees in life. I think when you are on a stage for a long period of time, when you perform, people get used to your performance. They start feeling for you more than you feel sometimes. This has to be corrected,” he added.

“Me playing the game is not for achievement. – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli also revealed that he had a chat with Rahul Dravid, the former India captain and head coach. He revealed that he talked about retirement and brought perspective about “when the right time is.”

“Me playing the game is not for achievement. It pretty much comes down to just the pure joy and enjoyment and love for the game. And as long as that love is intact, I will continue to play the game. I have to be honest about that with myself. Because the competitive streak doesn’t allow you to find the answer.

Recently, I had a very interesting conversation with Rahul Dravid when he was our coach. He said you always have to stay in touch with yourself. Figure out where you are placed in your life. And the answer is not that easy, because you might be going through a lean phase, and you feel like ‘this is it.’ But it might not be.

“But then when it was time, he said my competitive streak would not allow me to accept it. Maybe one more. Maybe six more months, whatever. So, I think it’s a fine balance. And you have to just pray and hope that you get clarity when it comes,” Kohli signed off.
